Sir — My only object in writing to you the other day was to try and supply a link that appeared to be lost in the history of the Balaclava affair. I am consequently glad to see your Reviewer’s letter this morning.
If his Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge and Sir G Cathcart lost no time in moving their Divisions into the plain by the same road, and the Duke of Cambridge arrived there first, surely the conclusion is obvious that his Royal Highness must have received his orders first.
No doubt some officer on the Staff at the time can explain this point, and we may yet arrive at a solution
